Two People Cycling on Bike PathIndianapolis, IN is a lovely city in the heart of Indiana that has plenty of attractions to entertain everyone. If you are looking to get yourself or your family outdoors, the area has a large selection of bike paths to choose from. From great views of nature to city tours, these paths give plenty of reasons to check them out.

1. Indianapolis Cultural Trail

This is by far the best way to get a taste of everything the city has to offer; by bike at least. The trail is a touch over 9 miles through the heart of the city allowing access to museums, restaurants, theaters, shops, and parks throughout the city. It is extremely well marked, and because there is no official start or endpoint to the route, it can be entered and exited at any point.

2. Franklin Greenway Trail

Franklin Greenway can also be referred to as the Franklin Historic Trail and is a ride through Franklin’s parks. The entire path is paved very well and also has a lot of good shade to help bikers stay cool. Along the way, you will come across Young’s Creek, Hurricane Creek, Morgan Park, and a ton of beautiful flowers.

3. Central Canal Towpath

IWC Canal Greenway is another name used for Central Canal Towpath is only about 5 miles but gives riders a chance to experience plenty in that short distance. For nature lovers, the trail is lined with trees, and animals that can be seen along the way include turtles, blue herons, ducks, and geese. Some man-made points of interest are Butler University, the Indianapolis Museum of Art, and two iron bridges from the 1800s.

4. Big 4 Trail (Lebanon to Colfax)

The Big 4 Trails are named in honor of the Big Four Railroad and this one should soon be connected to the Big 4 Trail in Zionsville. For now, this 15.4-mile stretch is known for passing by a bunch of Indiana farmland. The trail is known for being quite peaceful and along the way, you can see a mural celebrating both the trail and the railroad that inspired it.

5. B&O Trail

This is another trail that honors an important railroad in American history, this time the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. The trail is about 7 miles total, well-paved, and well-maintained as well. It is short, sweet, and quiet for now but the plan is for it to one day stretch for over 60 miles from Indianapolis to Montezuma.

6. B-Line Trail

The B-Line Trail is only about 3 miles long but more than makes up for its short length. The route is very well developed, with a bunch of different amenities available to riders so that the experience is enjoyable. The trail itself is smooth and flat, and with everything accessible, this is a great place for families, including pets.
