Indianapolis offers everything from great parks to a thriving arts scene to incredible dining options to the world-famous canal walk. There’s never a shortage of things to do and one thing that often gets overlooked is its great golf courses. Here are some of the best in the area.
1. Saddlebrook Golf Club
This course was closed down for a few years but it’s back up and running and in better shape than ever. It’s an excellent course for the price tag, and a place where you can go have a good time whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned veteran. The back nine can get narrow so you might want to leave the driver in the bag. You can enjoy the clubhouse with a drink and a bite to eat after the round.
2. Eagle Creek Course
There are two great courses here located on a fantastic sprawling piece of land. You have the option to play either the Sycamore or the Pines which are par 71 and par 72 respectively. The Sycamore could be considered a little more scenic as there’s plenty of water to play around. Both courses offer tree-lined fairways and will present a challenge to most players. There’s a clubhouse to enjoy the 19th hole when the round is over.
3. Pebble Brook Golf Club
The staff and service at Pebble Brook are excellent and it’s a great place to take lessons if you’re a beginner or are looking to sharpen up your game. There is a north and a south course and if you’re looking for a higher degree of difficulty, the north course will be the one for you. The courses are both kept in great shape with smooth greens and well-kept fairways.
4. Prairie View Golf Club
This course is spread out over 206 acres in Hamilton County and features 18 holes of championship golf and a full-service training facility. Dubbed by locals as one of the most challenging courses in the Indianapolis area, you’re going to want to bring your A-game when you arrive at Prairie View. There are some long par three holes and the fairways can be narrow and unforgiving. The out-of-bounds area comes at you quick so watch out.
5. Morningstar Golf Club
Morningstar is an 18-hole par-72 course that has been around since 1991. It prides itself on having a country club feel that doesn’t come with a lofty price tag. The staff and service are excellent, and the clubhouse offers everything you’d expect. The fairways are fairly open, making it a great course for those that like to pull out the big stick and have a rip. Morningstar is a great course for all skill levels.
