Read on for your expert guide to the 2022 Dodge Charger.

Your Guide to the 2022 Dodge Charger

Overview

While other car manufacturers might try to cultivate an air of class and luxury around their sedan models, the Charger is all about the power. With a wide array of V8 options under the hood to send you flying down the highway, including the legendary Hemi, the Charger is a sporty investment worth making. However, there are some concessions made to comfort and practicality, in the form of expansive legroom in the back seats, lots of cargo space, and a top-of-the-range infotainment system.

Performance

The Charger is offered with a variety of V8 powerplants under the hood. You can also opt for a V6, which trades a little power for the availability of AWD. All models share an eight-speed automatic transmission. There are four different V8 engines available, ranging from the 5.7-liter on the Charger R/T which makes 370hp and 395lb-ft of torque, to the mighty supercharged 6.2-liter mill under the hood of the SRT Hellcat Redeye, which can churn out as much as 797hp and 707lb-ft of torque, with a ridiculously fast 0-60 time of under four seconds.

However, the Pentastar V6 option is not to be sniffed at: it can still pull up to 300hp and comes with the option of AWD as well as the standard RWD found on the other models of the Charger. You’ll find it under the hood of the SXT and GT variants, where it can develop up to 264 lb-ft of torque.

Technology and Interior

All variants of the charger come equipped with the UConnect infotainment system, controlled through either a 7.4 or 8-inch touchscreen and including compatibility for both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The default audio setup has six speakers, but this can be upgraded to a nine or twelve-speaker system on higher trims.

The Charger has plenty of cargo space and excellent legroom in the back. The trunk can hold 16.5 cubic feet of luggage, and the legroom in the second row stretches to 40 inches. The cabin’s minimalist design is reminiscent of classic muscle cars, but there’s still plenty of room for storage along the doors and center console.
