Thai Paradise We certainly were in paradise when we bit into the amazing dishes Thai Paradise brought to us. Start out with a plate of Som Tum Salad to get a refreshing beginning to your meal, with shredded papaya topped with peanuts. The Melt Your Face is packed with hot sauce, Habanero Jack, Jalapeño, Habanero Whole Grain Mustard, and garden. Burgers can be paired with a selection of local craft beer, signature cocktails, and wine. Bru Burger Bar is located at 410 Massachusetts Avenue, and they are open from 11 am seven days a week. Brozinni Brozinni brings New York and its signature crust to Indiana with a family-friendly place that everyone will love. It's essential here to try the famous buttery garlic knuckles appetizer made from the house dough tied in a knot and baked. After this, there are salads, calzones, sandwiches, and classic Italian dishes, but it's the pizza we go for. Choose from great New York names like “Canal Street” with pepperoni, sausage, bacon, mushrooms, olives, and peppers, or the “Madison Ave” with BBQ sauce chicken bacon, onions, peppers, and pineapple. more 2. Bazbeaux Since 1986, Bazbeaux has been serving an amazing thin crust to the city and now has three branches, each with its own unique character. Each outlet runs a lunch special from 11 am to 1 pm on weekdays with pizza available by the slice, giving visitors a chance to try different flavors. Dinner sees 10, 12, and 16” pies cooked fresh to order. You can choose your own custom toppings from a huge list, or go with one of the in-house classics or specialties. We love the “Tchoupitoulas” which comes with cajun shrimp, roasted peppers, onion, and sausage. There's a perfect lemon sorbet dessert to delightfully end the meal. 3.Jockamo Upper Crust Jockamo is an independently owned restaurant with three branches in Indiana, and we frequently stop by the Irvington location. There's a long bar you can sit at with sports on TV, or you can choose to sit inside or out on the patio. The pizza menu covers all the essentials you'd expect, as well as build-your-own. Chicken Thai is a favorite of ours in the evenings, but if you're so inclined, (responsibly, of course) all day on Saturday and Sunday there are “Hangover Pizzas” with chorizo, gravy, scrambled eggs, cheese, and a lot more! 4. Giorgio's This is a perfect pizza-by-the-slice restaurant that promises fresh ingredients and original Italian recipes. An ideal lunch destination, we enjoy visiting for a different slice or two and enjoy the excellent choices that can be taken in a thin or thick crust. This canteen-style diner also offers a selection of hot and cold subs, pizza rolls, calzones, and pasta dishes, and naturally, you can order full pizzas too if you're hungry and know what you like. 5. Pearl Street Locals call this a gem in downtown Indianapolis near the Bankers Life Fieldhouse, and we strongly recommend you check out this locally-owned and operated pizzeria and pub. Other primates like the white-handed gibbon are also residents here, and you'll love the impressive climbing skills they put on display. There aren't many animals more breathtaking than the king of the jungle himself, the African lion, and you can see the pride that lives here. You'll also see other big cats like the cheetah, or some of their neighbors out on the savannah like the African elephant or the zebra. We also found the meerkats to be quite entertaining little creatures. They're social animals, so you may just be surprised at how much of yourself you see in them! more Soaring Through the Skies – Birds Many of the birds here at the zoo come from tropical climates, so they spend the winter months in their climate-controlled shelter. However, there's something to see even in the cold. Both the resident flamingos and southern ground hornbills are let out into the exhibit area as long as there isn't any particularly inclement weather. Visit during the warmer months, however, and you'll be treated to a whole rainbow of avian critters. Bright-colored budgerigars and crested cockatiels soar through the air, while the lorikeets have a beautiful and unique coloration. ‘Pretty' may not be the first word that comes to mind for the helmeted or vulturine guinea fowl, but they are fascinating birds all the same. Swimming in the Deep – Fish Since water covers over 70% of the world, no exploration of the animal kingdom would be complete without a look at our world's water dwelling creatures. Luckily, the zoo also offers excellent aquatic exhibits. You'll see exotic creatures like angelfish or pot-bellied seahorses swimming through the displays. The main attraction may just be the bottlenose dolphins who are always looking to put on a show and entertain guests. The sea lions also put on a great performance, though! The dynamic duo's homemade ice cream was such a hit at social gatherings, they decided to take the plunge and launch their own business in 2010. Fans couldn't get enough of their unusual flavor combinations, such as lavender lemon poppyseed, salted caramel and sage, and gorgonzola candied pecan. Just two months later, Cassie and her mom, Patty, opened the doors of their original East Washington Street location. In 2019, they opened a new Wyliepalooza in the SoBro community. Its unusual name is a tribute to Cassie's daughter, whom Patty affectionately calls Wylie. Wyliepalooza Ice Cream Emporium has a massive ice cream menu, including nondairy Italian ices and nondairy soy ice creams. If you can't decide, Wylie recommends her favorite, Zanzibar chocolate! 3. BRICS: 901 East 64th Street and 45 West 40th Street BRICS, short for Broad Ripple Ice Cream Station, is a modern ice cream parlor. It serves its samples on sustainable metal spoons and has a vegan-friendly case for patrons avoiding dairy. A revolving menu of 36 dairy and nondairy ice cream flavors provides plenty of choices.
